Attorney Profile

James LaMonda

Born in Middlebury, VT, I earned an A.S. from Woodbury College, where I also completed Woodbury’s Mediation/Conflict Management program.  In 2003 I graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University, and in 2006 was awarded my law degree from Vermont Law School, graduating magna cum laude.  At Vermont Law School, I was a staff writer and member of the Senior Editorial Board of The Vermont Law Review, I worked for the South Royalton Legal Clinic, and was a graduate of Vermont Law School’s General Practice Program. I have worked for the Vermont Defender General’s office, the Vermont Bar Association and Anthony Otis, Esq, performing legislative work in the Vermont State House in Montpelier.  For five years I worked as an associate for Axelrod & Adler, PLLC, in St. Johnsbury, assisting clients in all courts in Caledonia, Orleans, Essex, Windsor, Chelsea and Washington Counties, the same areas I cover now that I am in private practice.  I am a member of the American Bar Association, the Vermont Bar Association, and am admitted to practice in all Vermont state courts and the U.S. District Court in the District of Vermont.

Before turning to the legal profession, I served in the United States Army and worked for over ten years as a chef/baker in and around Addison County and central-Vermont.  Community service is important to me, having previously given my time to coaching and umpiring both youth baseball and football, and I have served on recreation boards and volunteered at youth centers in both Addison County and central Vermont. I have also performed volunteer work for the Town of Northfield, Vermont, the State of Vermont and for U.S. Senator James M. Jeffords, as well as the City of Montpelier and recently with the Washington County Youth Services Bureau.

My wife and I have lived in Montpelier since October 2009.  I play softball in the Montpelier men’s league and play golf as much as I can.  I tackle DIY projects around my home and both my wife and I share a love and appreciation for Vermont history and its natural beauty.
